The Underworld Audit: Navigating Venus Retrograde, Sharon-Ann Riley, 3 October 2026

We spend so much of our lives shrinking ourselves just to make things easier for everyone else. We watch our volume, smooth over our edges, and edit our needs so we never become too much for the room. Sometimes we do it to keep the peace in a relationship that feels fragile; other times, we do it out of habit, smoothing the path so life simply feels easier to navigate. Long before anyone ever asks us to, we quietly hand over pieces of our presence just to make sure we stay connected.

Venus retrograde in Scorpio puts a hard stop to all of that. It strips away the urge to perform and forces you to look at the exact places you abandon yourself just to keep the peace. This is a very real, very human awakening to what it actually costs you to keep playing small.

The Quiet Question of Identity

There is a specific kind of disorientation that arrives when the old habits break down. You wake up on an ordinary morning, look around at the life you have meticulously built, and a quiet, unexpected question rises from underneath: Who am I actually? What am I doing here? Where is any of this going? 🌊

For years, you may have defined yourself by your utility to others, acting as the one who holds it together, the one who adapts, the one who never makes a fuss. But when Venus moves backward through the deep waters of Scorpio, the old lenses come off and you are suddenly seeing everything as it is. Those borrowed definitions dissolve. The masks no longer fit, and the roles you played to feel safe simply stop working. When you look in the mirror and do not immediately know who is looking back, you are simply watching the conditioning fall away. 🔥

The Body Gets Loud

When you start letting go of your conditioning and putting yourself back at the center of your own life, that internal shift has an immediate effect on the physical form. You become far more connected to your body, which means you no longer have to treat your wellbeing as second prize. 🌿

Making better choices looks like learning to pause long before you reach the point of collapse. Healing takes time and patience after years of overriding yourself. You are simply learning how to rest in your own skin. ✨

When you finally stop negotiating with your own depletion, the body no longer has to scream to be heard. It gently lets go of the emergency armor, allowing you to finally exhale.

This is the deeper gift of this retrograde. It is here to clear out what no longer serves so you can reclaim your physical wellbeing fully, turning the body from a tool of endurance back into a home. 🏡

Letting Go of Over-Delivering

This cycle asks us to sit with the quiet adjustment of changing patterns. Saying no without rushing to soften it is simply the moment where self-abandonment ends and self-respect begins.

When you stop spending your energy managing everyone else's comfort, an alchemical shift takes place in your core. The space that used to go toward keeping up appearances and performing ease finally belongs to you. You begin to allow more of your authentic self out into the open, moving through your days with a quiet, grounded sovereignty that no longer needs permission to exist. 👑

Your authentic voice is meant to be heard, and expressing how you feel from a place of genuine care is simply love in motion. Yet with Venus in retrograde, the ultimate truth is that you cannot control how others react. You are here only to care for your own.

The Sovereign Return

When this cycle shifts, the illusion that you need to be chosen by anyone else dissolves.

The goal of the underworld is never to return to the version of you who walked into it. You do not emerge from the descent hoping to patch up the old leaks or return to the old compromises. You emerge quieter, clearer, and radically unavailable for anything that costs you your presence. 🦅
Because love that requires you to abandon yourself was never love at all. It was just an extended lesson in coming home. 🤎
