Time sure flies, but have you been having any fun lately?

When was the last time you truly stepped out of your obligations and duties box and “lived” a little? Like a picnic in a local park, your back yard or your living room floor? Went out for ice cream or just dessert around the corner or somewhere in town – for no reason – or more exactly “just because”.

And what about that hiking trip or other excursion you have been holding off for months (or years)? Why not turn it into a hiking day or morning/afternoon? Find a suitable location nearby where you can have your own mini-adventure with friends, family or by yourself.

The whole “Go Big or Bust” concept does tend to make you postpone a lot of things. Saving for big expeditions or fancy/far away places often take much longer than expected. Or reimbursing such experiences bought on credit also take more time than anticipated.

So much of the products and goods advertised are beyond what most of the population can reasonably afford, yet most of the advertisement seems to be targeted at that majority. A fact We fail to grasp. Kind of like moving a palm tree to the Arctic and wishfully hoping it will grow... Those big expenses often come with big stress and big headaches.

Life is made up of a series of moments. And these moments do not need to be huge to be memorable. In fact, most of the time, the small ones – those that happen in the moment – leave the biggest impressions. What have these moments been for you lately? Lots of work? Worry? Obligations? How good have you been at topping your fun quota?

You can be a tourist in your own town or surrounding area, you know.

We mean, have you visited all the local attractions people from away come to see? The zoo, the aquarium, the museums, natural attractions, festivals, events (big and small)? How about that famous or highly popular ice cream or coffee shop, restaurant or souvenir store? Even spending some time at a local “dive” will provide you with stories and (hopefully) laughter for years to come. Just like you would if you had picked an awful restaurant after driving for days.

If strangers make the effort to visit the town where you live, shouldn't you do the same? And that still holds for places where visitors are few and far between.

How about Going "Big" AND Going Home?

And this is not about the economy. We are aware that all the money spent locally supports where you live, the same way the rain waters the areas where it falls. Rather, this is about what We call “Love Energy”. If you care about yourself or your home for instance, and tend to your being/it, nurture it, treat it with great care, it shows. There will be something special about you (or your home).

Mind you, it will not necessarily be visible, but it will be sensed. Even if you are wearing a track suit, a pony tail and no make up, you will radiate that “love” or “I matter” or “I am someone and I am awesome” type of energy that will make a difference wherever you go.

And for those stationary living spaces of yours, well people people notice something as they approach or enter your place. Even as they recall the last time they visited or merely think about going there. They'll simply feel happier, lighter...

Now think of how it would uplift the energy of your entire time if more and more locals took some time in their day or week to live a little.

Actually, you would have more time to play and enjoy life because there is no need for travel or alternate accommodations, you are already there. All set to go and have some fun right in your town, and in doing so making it feel special, appreciated and cared for. Especially if your area has been experiencing more lows than highs for a while.

Yes, it all starts with yourself, your family, your home. But you can expand that to your city. Change up the energy in your town, make things move, clear out some of the negativity by making an effort to see the beauty in your town and support it. Infuse your entire community with love energy as you go about your day and see what happens.

There are so many wonderful people in your town striving to make a difference. Some of them have their own local businesses, others work for the city, local attractions, or services. Even if you have never spoken to your neighbour, you have one thing in common: You call the same town home.

Being appreciated by strangers is always fine and nice, but being recognized and valued by a fellow townsperson, even if you do not know each other personally, that is even more powerful. That bus driver or fellow who works at the recycling depot deserve a smile and a kind word. After all, they too play a role in making your town work.

You do not need to go anywhere to make a big splash. You have everything you need right at home.
